Is Aloe Vera plant helpful for treating psoriasis problem?

I am living in California and my skin is very dry. In tropical cold season my skin becomes rough and appears red and scaly spots on the skin. I have consulted my doctor and he said that this is caused due to psoriatic plaques. It is long term skin disease so he has prescribed different types of medicine. I want to know is Aloe Vera plant and its juice helpful for treating psoriasis problem. How can I use Aloe Vera for this problem?
