Aloe Vera is a succulent plant that is known for several healing properties and provides relief in several forms. It works against wrinkles and aging, aloe juice helps in digestion and provides energy. Besides this, plant contains glycosides that may have poisonous effects if consumed in larger quantities. Actually, a substance called latex is present in the aloe vera leaves and stems called latex which is harmful as it contains glycosides and the consumption of glycosides can be poisonous for the children.
Latex is a yellow substance that is found just beneath the skin and its consumption can triggers a purging reaction in the intestine. Therefore, aloe vera latex should not be used by person if he is suffering from intestinal obstruction, Crohn’s diseases, stomach pain, ulcers etc. Also, pregnant women are not advised to use aloe vera latex as it can triggers miscarriage.
Generally, Aloe Vera gel is extracted from the aloe vera plant and is applied directly on the skin surface for healing cuts, wounds or rashes and therefore, it is safe and relatively non-poisonous. But drinking of aloe vera juice containing latex can cause diarrhea, intestinal cramps and may be toxic if taken along with other steroidal drugs. So, it is always advised to consult your doctor if any medical condition persists.
